RIM’s network has been down for the third day running now, affecting all their core services on a global scale. Email, Internet, BBM, and Apps have all intermittently been affected (and for the most part completely down) since 10:00am (BST) on Monday 10th, by what RIM have described as being ’caused by a core switch failure within RIM’s infrastructure’ which originated at their EMEA data-centre hub in Slough, UK.
As it stands. RIM say they are currently throttling the service in order to clear the backlog of unsent messages built up over the last few days.
Predictably there has been a massive venting of frustrations on social networks, primarily Twitter. The ‘Tweet Timeline’ followed an all to familiar pattern. Initially the majority of (confused) users tweeted just to find out whether or not they were alone in experiencing service issues. These however rapidly transformed into tweets of frustration aimed at RIM for their conspicuously absent response to what was clearly a major service outage within the EMEA region.
